The drug theme has been an integral part of the film-making history for decades. ‘Birds of Passage’ is not just another film to tackle the theme, on the contrary – it gives a unique, although tragic perspective on this so troublesome subject. The period of time, covered in the story, is known as “la Bonanza Marimbera” in Colombia. This is between 1960 and 80s. During that devastating years, narco trafficking is on top of its business success. “Birds of Passage’ is visually impressive chronicle of a Wayuu clan. It shows the rise of its members who are pure and naïve at the beginning. It also reveals the crash of the same family, corrupted by drugs and broken by the merciless drug wars.
