Lammet af sorg holder Evans op med at spille for første gang siden sin barndom. Ved at klippe mellem Bill Evans nutid og fremtid, hans ædruelighed og rus, samt hans forhold til sin familie og sin on/off-kæreste, som deler hans smag for musik og hårde stoffer, skildrer EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS det indre liv og den personlige pris for et plaget musikalsk geni, mens han kæmper for at lære, at en pause nogle gange er en del af musikken. I hovedrollen som den plagede musiker ses den norske stjerneskuespiller Anders Danielsen Lie.

June 1961, New York City. Legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans has found his musical voice and created the perfect trio, including bassist Scott LaFaro, his musical soulmate. An engagement at the Village Vanguard culminates in the live recording of two of the greatest jazz albums of all time – recorded on the same day. A few days later, LaFaro tragically dies in a car accident. Paralyzed by grief, Evans stops playing for the first time since his childhood. By cutting between Bill Evans' present and future, his sobriety and intoxication, as well as his relationships with his family and his on/off girlfriend, who shares his taste for music and hard drugs, EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS depicts the inner life and personal toll of a tormented musical genius as he struggles to learn that sometimes a break is part of the music. The main role of the tormented musician is played by Norwegian star actor Anders Danielsen Lie.
